Did Jesus do what He came to do, or did He fail?

If you think people are going to Hell, then He failed. He wasn’t the Messiah, he wasn’t the Saviour of mankind, not if he only saved a fraction of us.

If you think Satan is still running around, ruling the world, then He failed. He wasn’t stronger than Satan.

If our relationship with God is dependent on our actions, thoughts, and beliefs, then He failed. He was a mediocre Saviour, because during the 1000 years before He came, a Jewish priest could make a blood sacrifice that covered the sins for the entire population for a whole year! *
If you believe that He has to come back, 2000 years later to finish the job, then not only did He fail, but He lied when He said, “It is finished.”

Those are the facts.

Does an acceptance of the Gospel mean that I’m a Christian? Maybe, I don’t care about labels anymore. I used to be a card carrying, born-again, evangelical, non-denominational Christian and I wasn’t a better person than I am now. I certainly wasn’t happier or healthier in my spiritual life. I had a lot more guilt, I’ll tell you that much. I was so focused on my sins, my repentance, my beliefs, my actions, my good deeds… it was ALL about me. Oh, and a little bit about Jesus Christ. If most Christians are honest, they’ll admit to the same thing. “I’m a piece of garbage but I’m saved through the blood of Christ and His grace!” If you are, then why are you still a piece of garbage? Why are you still a hopeless sinner?

The thing is, Christianity serves as a code of conduct, but it does not promote the Gospel.

Its moral dictates are on par with every other major religion. If you follow the rules, then you’ll get to Heaven. Rules that each of the 46,000 denominations have. Rules that apply in Islam, in Buddhism, in Hinduism, in Judaism, if you think about it, there’s a ton of rules and beliefs required for “illumination” in Satanism too.

The Gospel doesn’t require rites, rituals, churches, or religious leaders. All those aspects of religion may be beneficial to people, but they only serve to separate mankind from God. They try to serve as the intermediary actions required to reach God.

Last quick point: If you read the Book of Enoch (which New Testament writers apparently did as well) then you would know that there are different spiritual beings, not just Angels and Demons. These beings, like all of God’s creatures, have their own free will and their own agendas. Some are good and helpful; some are wicked and evil. The idea that this wickedness and evil still exists (and thrives!) in this world does not mean that Satan is still free, roaming the earth. You’re underestimating humanity's capacity for evil. You can’t blame Satan for our actions, as if we are such innocent babes only acting under the direction of an ultimate evil being. I’ll write more on the reasons and motivations of people committing evil in another essay, but for now, be it know that we are fully capable of all the atrocities on our own, and yes, there are evil forces in the world, but Jesus completed his task – He did everything He came to do.

*The 1000 years between King David and Jesus Christ were the 1000 years of peace mentioned in the book of Revelation. We always ascribe that millennium as a time of peace between man, here on earth. But again, that’s making it all about us. The peace of those 1000 years was between God and man, not man and man. It was when Satan was locked up. The "tribulation" was when he was released “for a short time” where he had “great wrath" (During Christ's ministry on Earth was when this occurred.) The peace between us and God meant that His priests (Order of Melchizedek) would make a yearly sacrifice that would cause the sins of the people to be forgiven for that full year. This was a much better deal (the blood of bulls and rams) compared to Christianity which never offers forgiveness of sins without constant repentance, confessions, adherence to rituals and rites, proper moral behavior, and THEN the gap is covered by the blood of Christ. By the way, is that the extent of the shed blood of Christ, that it’s just a top up?
